Hi! I’m Katie Schiffgen and I’ve been teaching yoga for a little over 7 years now and practicing on and off for over half of my life. I have learned so much as a practitioner and instructor of yoga, breathwork, and mindfulness and am so passionate about sharing it with anyone and everyone who is willing to open their mind and heart to discovering a deeper part of who they are!
When I first started teaching I was more interested in the physical benefits of yoga. I loved studying alignment and made it a goal for myself, as a teacher to find clear, concise, and accessible ways to incorporate sound and sustainable alignment principles into every class I taught. I loved studying the Anusara method and to this day I will utilize the “Universal Principles of Alignment” into my teaching.
As time went on, I became more and more interested in the spiritual side of yoga. I began opening up to slower, more restorative classes as part of my own practice and then eventually as part of my teaching as well. I had a life changing experience in a Breathwork class and started diving deeper and deeper into different types of breathwork and pranayama. When my marriage fell apart I discovered the power of somatic movement practices to release emotions, process feelings, and even heal old traumas. I have become a more intuitive practitioner and teacher over the years because of my own experiences. And that’s what I teach from — my heart and my experiences. And my hope is that something just might resonate with YOU in a way that inspires expansion and opening and ultimately letting go :)

On the subject of retreats! My most favorite thing!
I have been leading international yoga retreats for 5 years now. I’ve facilitated retreats in Thailand, Bali, Croatia, Costa Rica, Mexico, Colombia, and more. These retreats are my ABSOLUTE DREAM. My two greatest passions: YOGA and TRAVEL wrapped into one beautiful week of connection, adventure, openness, and expansion!!! ... not to mention the delicious food! Every retreat is pure magic. I cannot express my gratitude that I am able to do this as my JOB! Please join me sometime and experience the magic for yourself!!!! Step out of your comfort zone and see what a week in paradise with an equal amount of adventure, mindfulness, and rejuvenating self care will do for your soul!!!! I dare you! Give yourself this gift, you deserve it!

Teaching Specialties

Authenticity! Goofy hilariousness! I’m down to earth. I’m easy to talk to and open up to. I’m easily vulnerable. I love laughing. I love talking real about real life shit. I’m a yogi... but I’m a human too! I am nowhere near perfect... I get you!

What are your favorite Retreat Venues around the world

"Vikasa is Thailand— they are lover to organize and plan with... they are great at billing everyone at the end... they make the process as stress free for the organizer as possible Kura Kura in Bali — the food was amazing and our little retreat “mama” who took care of us named Kadek was an angel. The manager was harder to work with but in the end, she was reasonable enough and i would still go back because the space is magical and Kadek is the best!"
