Having initially studied forensic chemistry at Pace University, NYC in 2006, Jess immediately took an interest in Anatomy. That paired with having been a former athlete, always active and very passionate about fitness she sought after solace in yoga to soothe injuries caused by over exertion. What was supposed to be just a complementary activity accidentally turned into a full-blown love affair with a much deeper connection beneath the surface.

In September 2013, Jess obtained her Yoga Alliance teacher Certification under the tutelage of Heather Sheridan and Julie Gurevich. Emphasizing yoga’s power to transform using form and function, Jess’s classes are challenging and built from a foundation of showing us just how strong we really are. It is her philosophy that yoga shouldn’t be intimidating and that students should always leave class feeling a little bit better than when they arrived.

Most recently, Jess has traveled extensively taking and teaching classes and workshops in Toronto, Montreal, Quebec, Calgary, Vancouver, London, South of France, Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo and Marrakech in various languages and styles. In March 2015, Jess completed an additional 300 hours of teacher training via the POE ACADEMY in New Jersey with David Regelin, Dylan Werner, Ben Sears, Phillip Askew, Ivy Kaminer, Matt Giordano, Nevine Michaan & Abbie Galvin.

Jess continues to grow and explore as a student, currently engulfing herself most in the Katonah Yoga® Material.

What's your personal definition of what it means to thrive?

To thrive is not to find a point in your life where you are comfortable enough; where things are okay, or even great. Thriving is not a way-point on the map of personal development. It is the perpetual journey of growth of expansion and adaptation that allows you to venture further into a sense of authentic well-being. This ability to thrive can arise at any time in your life and regardless of the circumstances that currently surround you. You may be lost in the darkness of depression but if you are inherently happier than you were yesterday, you are beginning to thrive. You may have suffered a long history of isolation or abuse but if your relationships are stronger and more supportive than they have ever been, you are beginning to thrive. If your environment is increasingly more conducive to growth and success; if your unconscious reactions and conscious choices are becoming healthier and more fulfilling; if you are more careful and compassionate with how you view yourself, you are already expanding beyond the nature of your past experience. You are thriving.

Who do you look up to ? Who has helped you the most along your teacher / retreat leader journey?

Nevine Michaan. There truly isn't a soul like her on this planet.
