Although I was introduced to yoga around 20 years ago, my real passion was ignited when I discovered the amazing healing powers of yin yoga. After struggling for many years (since 2005) with chronic fatigue syndrome, complex PTSD, depression and anxiety I was unable to function and being on high doses of medication was not the answer, it made me feel worse and the side effects were just adding to my debilitated state! Being the analytical person I am, I just had to figure out why this was happening to me and find a solution. I wanted my life back!
It was whilst being treated for complex PTSD, I developed a fascination with how the human brain works and the connection between the mind and body.
This drive to understand more led me to gain my PhD in Metaphysical Science, the study of consciousness and existence and the nature of reality. Mind-blowing stuff and I loved it!
To cut a long story short, I eventually decided to quit my stressful corporate job of 30 years and embark on my mission to reclaim my wellbeing. Some people thought I'd gone mad, but this strong urge to get out and take time out could not be ignored, I had to break free!
My first yoga teacher training was in Goa, India. I wanted to immerse myself in a new environment and a way of being that would help to heal my physical, emotional and mental self. And heal I did! I completely overhauled my life and began to share this life-changing knowledge with others, creating transformational experiences through my unique blend of yin yoga, mindfulness, spiritual counselling, ancient Chinese and Indian wisdom and practical brain science, via educational and inspirational classes and international retreats. So far, I have hosted 2 retreats in Chiang Mai ~Thailand and others in Ibiza ~Spain, Santorini ~ Greece and Goa ~ India, with more to follow!
This fascinating journey has involved over 600 hours of Yoga Alliance teacher training, Hatha, Ashtanga, Vinyasa, Aerial and Yin & Acu-Yin to advanced level, and Yoga for Trauma Recovery. Of these, Yin (including Acu-Yin) was the completing piece of the jigsaw and where the healing powers that are present within us all, were activated.
Counselling on stress management and how to mitigate against the devastating long-term effects is woven into my unique style of teaching due to my own life experiences and I'm grateful for all of them, however distressing at the time, as this has given me the gift of being able to bring healing and peace into other people’s lives, empowering them to overcome their challenges and find – and enjoy a life to love.
