Although I was introduced to yoga around 20 years ago, my real passion was ignited when I discovered the amazing healing powers of yin yoga. After struggling for many years (since 2005) with chronic fatigue syndrome, complex PTSD, depression and anxiety I was unable to function and being on high doses of medication was not the answer, it made me feel worse and the side effects were just adding to my debilitated state! Being the analytical person I am, I just had to figure out why this was happening to me and find a solution. I wanted my life back!

It was whilst being treated for complex PTSD, I developed a fascination with how the human brain works and the connection between the mind and body.

This drive to understand more led me to gain my PhD in Metaphysical Science, the study of consciousness and existence and the nature of reality. Mind-blowing stuff and I loved it!

To cut a long story short, I eventually decided to quit my stressful corporate job of 30 years and embark on my mission to reclaim my wellbeing. Some people thought I'd gone mad, but this strong urge to get out and take time out could not be ignored, I had to break free!

My first yoga teacher training was in Goa, India. I wanted to immerse myself in a new environment and a way of being that would help to heal my physical, emotional and mental self. And heal I did! I completely overhauled my life and began to share this life-changing knowledge with others, creating transformational experiences through my unique blend of yin yoga, mindfulness, spiritual counselling, ancient Chinese and Indian wisdom and practical brain science, via educational and inspirational classes and international retreats. So far, I have hosted 2 retreats in Chiang Mai ~Thailand and others in Ibiza ~Spain, Santorini ~ Greece and Goa ~ India, with more to follow!

This fascinating journey has involved over 600 hours of Yoga Alliance teacher training, Hatha, Ashtanga, Vinyasa, Aerial and Yin & Acu-Yin to advanced level, and Yoga for Trauma Recovery. Of these, Yin (including Acu-Yin) was the completing piece of the jigsaw and where the healing powers that are present within us all, were activated.

Counselling on stress management and how to mitigate against the devastating long-term effects is woven into my unique style of teaching due to my own life experiences and I'm grateful for all of them, however distressing at the time, as this has given me the gift of being able to bring healing and peace into other people’s lives, empowering them to overcome their challenges and find – and enjoy a life to love.

Education on stress management, practical brain science (made simple of course!) and ancient Eastern wisdom is included throughout my sessions and retreats as it's been scientifically proven that assigning meaning to what we do give us better results. Being a certified Holistic Life Coach and Spiritual Counsellor adds something extra to help people overcome life's challenges in a healthy way. I'm a down to earth, caring and loyal person, who doesn't take life too seriously; fun and laughter included! What are your favorite Retreat Venues around the world

I have loved every retreat I have hosted and attended, for different reasons. My first yoga retreat experience as a guest was at The Pelagos on the stunning Greek island of Santorini, absolute bliss! That really did change my life, especially through the friendships that I made I what I learned. To actually host my own retreat there just 3 years later was a dream come true! The first retreat that I organised and hosted myself was in Chiang Mai, Thailand, and due to the huge success, I returned the following year. Both venues were pure luxury at its best and the Thai massages are on another level! The calmness and spiritual feel of the place really allows you to sense inner peace and absorb it fully. Visting the temples, a day trekking, bathing and feeding the elephants, meeting the local monks and zip lining through the jungle was absolute heaven! Goa in India will always have a special place in my heart, it's like my second home. Hosting a retreat there in 2019 was another dream come true. When I love a place so much and connect with it, I can't wait to share it with my friends and students. January 2022 will be extra special due to having been unable to travel in January 2021 due to the global pandemic. For the Ibiza retreat, I chose a beautiful private villa in a quiet location surrounded by nature. Ibiza is also a special place, with a unique energy, great to balance calming yoga and also some dancing! The perfect yin and yang experience! We really do have fun on these trips. I am absolutely meticulous when it comes to finding the perfect venue, that harmonises beautifully with the excursions and the yoga, and I'm pleased that I can offer truly life changing experiences for my lovely guests and what makes these trips extra special is the lasting friendships that are made. Priceless!

What's your personal definition of what it means to thrive?

To finally release the emotional blockages that keep us stuck in the past. Feeling the freedom of letting go, allowing joy to flow, and creating a life that feels good on the inside and not just good on the outside. When we find our passion, follow it, live authentically, staying true to ourselves and live in harmony with nature, from this place of peace, we create the space to thrive.

Who do you look up to ? Who has helped you the most along your teacher / retreat leader journey?

Kata van Doesselaar has helped me the most due to her outstanding yin teachings and how they have helped to heal me and allow me to share with others. She will always be part of my journey. I'm forever grateful. One person I certainly could not have done this without is my dear old mum Betty! My best friend and constant support. Grateful beyond words and very lucky to have her around.
